Students with Disabilities Attending Out-of-District Schools/Programs

This report provides the number and percentage of all K-12 students with disabilities attending an educational setting other than the resident district’s schools. Calculations include around 600 students annually who are not public-school enrolled students but receive special education and related services via a Services Plan; these students with disabilities are typically enrolled in Connecticut private/parochial schools around the state and receive minimal services (less than 3 total hours/week). Descriptions of setting types are provided below.

Public Schools in Other Districts: Charter Schools, Regional Education Service Center (RESC) Magnet Schools & Special Education Programs, Public Schools and Public Special Education Programs in other districts, and Public Transition Programs in other districts.

Private Schools or Other Settings: Hospital/Homebound, Approved Private Special Education Programs (APSEPs), Nonpublic Schools and students placed by parents into parochial/private educational settings, Nonpublic Transition/Vocational Service Providers (TVSPs), and students educated out of state.

Note: For years prior to 2023-24, students attending TVSPs were included in the Public Schools in Other Districts count. Beginning in 2023-24, these students are included in the Private Schools or Other Settings count.
